I start every school year with a monarch butterfly science unit. The wonder of a crawly little caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly is a perfect way to get students interested in the natural world. We have released 24 butterflies so far this year. I think that is a new record for me! Every morning I can't wait to unlock my classroom door and see how many new butterflies have emerged. When the kids arrive at 8:10, they are even more excited! There is nothing better, than seeing the small little orange and black monarchs flying up into the sky as they start their migration to Mexico.
The classroom library is organized. The desks are all labeled. The bulletin boards are up. Let the school year begin!
I am so proud of Hill City School. We have amazing custodians who are constantly improving our facility. We have caring office staff who take the time to greet every single person who comes through our school doors. Hill City teachers are an incredible group of hard working educators who want to build relationships with every student in our school. This classroom is ready, but it isn't complete without the 20 second graders who will soon come through the door. I can't wait to spend 9 months exploring the world with them. It is going to be a great year! |
