We are continuing to study life cycles in science. Today we looked closely at goldenrod galls. These little balls are found on the stem of goldenrod plants. The goldenrod gall fly lays its eggs on the stem of the goldenrod plant and the little larva crawls into the stem. The plant then forms a lump around the maggot. After doing an observational drawing in our science journals, we cut the galls open to reveal the little maggot inside. |

Welcome to second grade! Here is a little tour of our room. The second graders will always be working towards doing our best work. This is where we will display all the wonderful assignments and projects we create. Every student will have a job each week. These will change every Monday. We have many creepy crawlies in our science lab including fish, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, monarch butterfly larvae and chrysalises, mealworms, and a red worm compost farm. Our learning goals will be posted here for each unit. The bookshelf holds all our important supplies. Each student will have a brag tag necklace. The second graders will earn brag tags for good behavior and academic effort. This is my desk area. Our motto this year is "Work hard and be kind." I love books! This is our library with my hundreds of books all organized into reading levels. I can't wait to have my students start reading. Every day will start with a morning meeting. This is our gathering area I call the "nest." We will meet here daily for morning meeting and math time. This is our small group reading area. A lot of learning is going to take place here!
