Every year I start off science with a study of the monarch butterfly life cycle. We have been carefully watching the caterpillars and chrysalises in the cage in our classroom. We have released 12 butterflies so far, and we have 2 chrysalises still to go. We will be spending some time talking about butterfly migration as summer turns to fall in the next few days. I encourage my students to get outside and check out what is in their backyards. They are welcome to bring in any critters they find (small ones, of course) so we can have a closer look. We hope to see some more caterpillars, frogs and maybe even some snakes this fall. |
