The first week of second grade is history and it was a good one! We spent a lot of time this week just getting to know one another - we have 5 new students in our class this year! We also learned all the oodles of procedures that need to be followed in order for our classroom to run smoothly. The students had some time this week to explore manipulatives, such as pattern blocks, and we learned how to use and take care of simple tools like pencils, crayons, and markers. Our class motto is, "Work Hard and Be Kind." Early next week we will start talking about the kinds of behaviors we need to show in order for all of us to do our best work. This will lead into a discussion of our Hopes and Dreams for the year. Eventually our rules and consequences will be developed. I am constantly amazed at all the little things that need to be taught at the beginning of each school year. Taking the time now will save us time in the long run, so if you are wondering why we haven't started real reading and math yet, this is my reason. Thanks for all you do to help your child become a successful student. |
