It was a cold and rainy day, but we still had fun at the apple orchard. We got to shoot apples at targets, go on a hayride, find our way through a corn maze, do a scavenger hunt, and pick our own apple.
We are busy studying the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. We still have a few caterpillars and chrysalises in our cage. We have released 15 butterflies so far and have a few more to go!
We have started our silent reading time! Every day the 2nd graders will get some time to read to themselves using books at their own level. The students are expected to take Accelerated Reader tests on these books. They will be able to earn points towards a special store each month. Each 2nd grader also has a quarterly goal they are trying to meet. All students who meet their goal each quarter will receive some special rewards including a fun "goal party." Please encourage your child to read at home as much as possible. Thanks!
Every day my second graders are going to get a short time to play together during our snack break. I believe that young children need to have unstructured time to explore new activities. Even more importantly, this time will teach them how to get along with each other.
Well, here we go! Another school year is about to begin! I have spent many hours preparing my new classroom for the new second graders. The new chairs and stools are awesome! It is going to be a great year.
For the final activiy in our matter science unit, we made oobleck. Is it a solid or a liquid or both? The students had fun deciding!
Today in our study of matter, the kiddos blew up balloons with vinegar and baking soda. We learned all about chemical reactions.
Today in science we learned about the density of liquids. We poured four mystery liquids together and they made a multi-colored tower of liquids!
Isn't spring supposed to be here? Today Jodi Nordlund came and took us for a walk for exercise. It was a little chilly for April.
