Our energy unit is in full swing! We spent the last few days learning about electrical energy where the students made circuits that lit light bulbs and learned about insulators and conductors. Today we worked on making an electromagnet from a nail. The students learned that when a wire wrapped nail is hooked up to a battery, it becomes magnetic. We then conducted an experiment to determine what variables would cause the magnet to become stronger - more wrapping of the wire or more batteries. The students got practice recording and graphing data as they worked to pick up the most paper clips.
